## What we can help with

- Business data and system inventory
- Backup coverage and retention review
- Agreed restore testing
- Backup account access checks
- Documented recovery responsibilities

A successful backup notification is useful, but the business still needs to know whether it can recover the right records. Begin with a realistic interruption, such as losing a laptop or access to a cloud account.

The recovery requirement should reflect the work you need to resume and the amount of recent data you could afford to lose.

## Identify the records needed to keep working

Current orders, customer files and accounting records may live in different places. Website databases, cloud apps and local folders need separate coverage checks. We document those locations before recommending a product.

Some systems also need configuration and software to recover usefully. A folder of exported documents may not restore the app that normally processes them.

## Understand the recovery features already available

File synchronisation, version history and deleted item recovery have different limits. We review the available features against the interruptions you want to plan for, including loss of access to the original account.

A separate backup may be appropriate, but its retention, protected data and restore method still need to be checked. The product name alone does not establish coverage.

## Agree on what a recovery test will do

A test should have an identified record or system, an expected result and a safe destination. We agree on the approach before restoring anything, with care around live files and customer information.

The notes should state what was recovered, how long the relevant steps took and which parts of a larger recovery remain untested.

## Protect access to the backup itself

The backup environment needs controlled administration and a way to recover access. We review who can restore or delete copies and whether the recovery route depends entirely on the account it is meant to protect.

Instructions should be available through an agreed alternative when normal file storage or business email cannot be reached.

## Plan for devices and cloud services separately

A device replacement and a cloud account recovery involve different prerequisites. Internet access, provider support and replacement equipment can affect how quickly people return to work.

We distinguish the backup job from a broader continuity plan. If the business needs recovery targets or formal assurance, those requirements belong in the brief and the acceptance checks.

## Keep recovery checks current

New software, changed folders and departing administrators can leave yesterday's backup plan incomplete. The handover should name who reviews coverage and how a failed backup or test is followed up.

Remote configuration and checks can suit businesses across Australia. Perth site work or physical media handling needs to be scoped around the equipment and access involved.

## Common questions

### Is OneDrive or Google Drive a backup?

Their recovery features can help with particular problems, but the limits need to match your requirements. We review those limits before recommending a separate recoverable copy.

### Can you test recovery without overwriting our files?

Often, a test can use a separate destination. The method depends on the system and needs to be agreed before a restore affects any live data.

### Who owns the backup subscription?

Your business should retain account ownership and recovery control. Provider access, recurring costs and responsibilities should be documented in the agreed arrangement.

### Do backups stop ransomware?

Backups support recovery from some incidents. They do not replace access controls, patching or incident handling, and the backup environment also needs protection.
